The animals in the Great Barrier Reef is very diverse. It has many different kinds of animals ranging in shape and size, even some you wouldn't think were animals. Coral for example looks very similar to plants but actually stings phytoplankton to consume it as food.
The Dwarf Minke Whales are baleen whales. They feed on tiny plankton, krill, and sometimes small fish. They are not deep divers and are normally found on the northern side of the Great barrier reef.
Sea turtles lay their eggs in the sand every breeding season. They come back to the same spot every year to lay their eggs. When the eggs hatch they follow the moonlight to the ocean. Sea turtles can live over a hundred years. They get very big in size.
Sea snakes are very similar to normal snakes. Their sleek slim bodies make it easier to swim in the water. The ends of their bodies looks like a fin to help it swim even better.
Dugongs are recently found animals. They look like dolphins and whales mixed together. Although biologists have yet to figure out everything about them they know that the dugongs eat seagrass.
White breasted sea eagles are one of the bird species that are found in the ecosystem. These birds are well suited for this ecosystem because they feed off of the fish on top of the water by diving down and catching them for food.
Coral trout are of the many fish in the environment. When they are small all of them are actually females but when they get past a certain point in their growth they become males. These trout are suited for this environment because they mostly each crustaceans. They also eat other small fish which makes the piscivores.
Clown anemone fish are amazing animals. Their habitats are actually in sea anemone. Although sea anemone normally sting the animals that touch them, the clown fish are not affected by this. They aren't affected by this because they have a coating of mucus on them that prevents them from feeling the sting. By having the sea anemone for a home, it keeps them safe from unwanted predators.
